Alpaca clothing is made from the natural fiber of Peruvian alpacas. The fiber is valued for softness, lightweight warmth, breathability, and an elegant drape.

Alpaca provides warmth without heavy bulk, works well for layering, and is naturally low in lanolin. Well-cared-for pieces can remain beautiful for years.

Baby alpaca describes a fine fiber grade, not necessarily the age of the animal. It feels especially smooth and is well suited to next-to-skin garments.

Alpaca is an excellent insulator and often feels very warm for its weight. Garment construction, fiber blend, and thickness also affect warmth.

Alpaca is naturally low in lanolin and fine grades feel smooth, so many people find it comfortable. Sensitivities vary; review the fiber blend and try the piece in person if needed.

Lightweight alpaca layers can be comfortable across seasons because the fiber insulates while remaining breathable. Heavier knits are best for cooler weather.

Air between wears and spot clean when possible. For washing, use cool water and a gentle wool-safe cleanser, avoid agitation, and lay flat to dry.

Follow the garment label. Hand washing is safest for most pieces. Never use hot water, strong agitation, bleach, or high dryer heat.

Some pilling can occur where fabric rubs. Remove pills gently with a sweater comb and avoid over-washing to reduce friction.

Clean the piece before storage, fold rather than hang heavy knits, and keep it in a breathable container with cedar or another moth deterrent.
